A little About Me:
So, I am Mike (aka Deker) and I am one of the co-hosts of this loony bin knows as Nerd Effect. I am a native to Boise, ID and have lived here most of my life. My nerdism started at a young age when my mom took me to see Star Wars at the drive-in when I was 5. Action figures, Legos and Legend of Zelda filled my childhood with nerdy nerdy joy and wonder. In high school some friends introduced me to roleplaying with GURPS (which is a gateway RPG) and I have been addicted ever since.
Artistically I have many interests. Illustration and photography where my main areas of interest when I was young. When I could afford to get myself a computer I started learning html and tried my hand at web design. Eventually I realized there was no way I was gonna make money with my artistic talents unless I earned a degree, so I moved to Phoenix, AZ to go back to school and learn Animation. Worst mistake of my life. I learned a lot while I was in Phoenix but the financial situation was always in bad shape. Working full time, going to school and issues with my financial aid (as well as the recruiter straight up lying to me about receiving financial aid for living expenses) added up to a big pile of fail that left me $40k in dept. Moral of the story: if the school says it’s degree is accredited, then it ain’t worth the paper it’s printed on.
Enough bio angst… Today I spend my off work time with my kitties, playing online games like ESO, and now creating encounters for my hapless players to tediously skirmish. Someday I plan on getting back to my artistic endeavors, but for now I focus on the day to day and making sure I get to that tomorrow when I can make art my life.
